Laminate is one of the most visible choices in built-in cabinetry, but a sample that looks appealing on a screen can feel quite different when it covers a full wardrobe, kitchen cabinet or feature wall. Compare options in person and consider how each finish will look and work in the room where it will be installed.

Start with the room and how you use it

Think about the daily demands on the surface. Kitchen cabinet doors and frequently touched drawers may need finishes that are practical to wipe and comfortable to use. In a bedroom, colour and texture may matter more to the overall feel. Ask about the care instructions for each option, and follow the supplier's guidance for cleaning.

Also consider lighting. Daylight, warm evening lights and showroom lighting can change how a colour appears. If possible, view samples under more than one light source and place them beside the flooring, wall colour or countertop they need to complement.

Compare more than colour

Before confirming, ask for the selected finish and its location to be recorded in the project documents. This helps everyone refer to the same choice during fabrication and installation. If you are unsure, narrow the options to a few samples and compare them in the actual room before making a final decision.
